President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov received Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj as part of her official visit to Kyrgyzstan on August 3. An exchange of views took place on bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and India.

President Jeenbekov warmly welcomed Sushma Swaraj, noting that Kyrgyzstan stands for the building up of friendly relations with India. “It is gratifying to note the activation of mutual visits and meetings, the positive dynamics of the development of bilateral relations and meaningful cooperation on various platforms,” ​​said the President.

The President named the spheres of hydropower, healthcare, agriculture and the introduction of information and communication technologies in the activities of state bodies as priority areas of cooperation.

There was also an exchange of views on the possibilities of the countries in opening up the potentials in the trade and economic sphere, and developing the transport infrastructure. “We have great opportunities to create joint ventures, especially in the field of agriculture, as Kyrgyzstan produces environmentally friendly products. Also, Kyrgyzstan has the status of the GSP + and the opportunity to enter the markets of the EU countries. I am glad that we also have active relations with India in the sphere of tourism, and this sphere has a great future, “said Jeenbekov.


He recalled that the chairmanship of the SCO was moved to Kyrgyzstan, the next SCO Summit will be held in Bishkek and handed an official invitation to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan, combining participation in the Summit.

Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj congratulated Sooronbai Jeenbekov on winning the presidential elections and conveyed best wishes from Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, who had a bilateral meeting with the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sooronbai Jeenbekov, on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Qingdao, China. “We are happy that in such a beautiful country as Kyrgyzstan democracy is strengthening and developing. We are ready to cooperate in its further development. I arrived for an official visit to Kyrgyzstan for the first time, but bilateral relations between our countries have been actively developing over the past 25 years,” Sushma Swaraj said. She congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its chairmanship in the SCO and expressed confidence in the further deepening of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and India within the framework of this organization.

Concerning the introduction of information and communication technologies in the activities of state bodies, Sushma Swaraj expressed the willingness of the Indian side to render concrete assistance in training and creating special training centers for these purposes.

The both sides expressed confidence that the official visit of Indian Foreign Minister to Kyrgyzstan will further promote the fruitful development of bilateral cooperation and friendly relations between the two countries
