The solemn handover ceremony of the totem of the Third World Nomad Games – a vessel filled with glacier water – from Kyrgyzstan to Turkey took place in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul on September 8. Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev solemnly handed over the vessel kookor and the flag of the Games to Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Turkey Hamza Yerlikaya. The totem contains water from the Khan-Tengri Peak and reflects a relevant problem of our time – the problem of fresh water deficit. This ritual is an alternative to the Olympic torch.

“In the light of the fact that the next World Nomad Game are to be held in Turkey in 2020, during the closing ceremony there will be a symbolic ritual of moving the games to the host country”, First Vice Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov told summing up the outcomes of the Third Nomad Games. “It is symbolic that glacier water in a vessel (kookor) – the totem of the World Nomad Games – will be handed over to Turkey, as well as the book of the great winners,” Boronov said, explaining that it was not fortuitous that glacier water was chosen.
