The Kyrgyz language is a symbol of our statehood, the basis of friendship, unity of the nation, our common spiritual heritage. It was said by the President Sooronbai Jeenbekov in an address to the people of Kyrgyzstan on the occasion of the State Language Day. As our great writer Chingiz Aitmatov said, “Mother tongue is a self-portrait of the people.” For any people, the issue of preserving one’s native language is a matter of preserving identity, self and traditions, the President said.

Over the years since the adoption of the Law on the State Language, the interest of the public in the Kyrgyz language has increased; it is widely used in pre-school institutions, educational institutions, state bodies, scientific and many other fields in the country.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of the National Commission on the State Language, which is an authorized state body responsible for improving the state language policy in the country and monitoring the strict implementation of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on the State Language.
