President Sooronbai Jeenbekov spoke about the main results of 2018 on December 19 at a press conference, where he told reporters that the year that is now ending will go down in history and that several important events contribute to this. “It was a year with the right policy,” he noted. “All three branches of power have made a great contribution to the development of the country. We have a program we work on. The first question to be addressed is the improvement of relations with neighbors. I have visited all the neighboring countries. In addition, I traveled to Turkey, the European Union and other countries. We have been working steadily with all countries at all levels.”

The biggest event in 2018, the head of state called the high-level holding of the III World Nomad Games. “For three years, the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States meeting has not been held. We have been able to organize it this year, also in Cholpon-Ata. Afterwards, the 90th anniversary of world writer, philosopher and thinker Chingiz Aitmatov was held at a high level. In addition, we were delighted by the fact that Kyrgyzstan has risen from 77th place to 70th in the Doing Business rating,” the President added.

The head of state noted that there were many personnel changes in the outgoing year. “Despite this, the economy has grown by 3.1%. Good indicators in tax and customs revenues, 3.5 billion soms and 6.9 billion soms, respectively,” Sooronbai Jeenbekov added.

The President called social payments to parents or relatives of people with disabilities as one of the important achievements.

In addition, Jeenbekov raised the issue of regional development. He stressed that local authorities had limitations in many ways and that in this regard changes are made to the legislative acts. “All loans, grants and, if possible, funds from the budget were directed into the development of regions. We will not stop there. Until 2023, work will continue. For example, work is underway on the Taza Suu project,” the head of Kyrgyzstan explained.

Jeenbekov also noted the fight against corruption through the reform of the judicial and law enforcement system, the digitization of the country, the implementation of the Safe City project. “I also would like to note that in 2018 I met with the leadership of all the media, civil society, donors, ex-prime ministers, ex-speakers and compatriots. I have heard their opinion. At the beginning of the year I wish to meet with the country’s intelligentsia as a whole. My goal is the development of the country and society,” he concluded.
