Presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan are scheduled to be held on November 19 2017. This was announced officially on February 15 after a meeting held between President Almazbek Atambayev and chairwoman of the Central Election Commission Nurjan Shaildabekova.
During the meeting the head of state stressed the special importance of the forthcoming elections. “It is necessary to eliminate all shortcomings and omissions in the work and ensure fully open and fair elections. Only free and fair elections provide legitimacy and ensure stability in the country,” Atambayev said. His own presidential term ends in December 2017.
Three candidates have already declared officially their intentions to run for presidency: former Prime Minister Temir Sariev, leader of Respublika-Ata-Jurt faction of the parliament Omurbek Babanov and leader of Onuguu Progress faction Bakyt Torobaev.
